Facebook is buying WhatsApp, the widely popular communications app for smartphones that has 450 million users a month.
WhatsApp has grown massively since its inception – in the calendar year 2013 its users sent 18 billion messages and received 36 billion in return – a massive number that is fully three times the previous year’s metrics. The purchase would be the biggest Internet deal since Time Warner’s $124 billion merger with AOL in 2001, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
LinkedIn announced that it will be closing Intro, a mobile service designed specifically to display LinkedIn profiles contacts in Apple Mail messages, on March 7. The company is now alerting users to uninstall the app from their iOS device before the closure.
Intro was meant to add more professional context to email and draw more users to LinkedIn. Intro users have received an email from LinkedIn with the subject line “We’re retiring LinkedIn Intro” asking them to uninstall the app and switch back to the previous mail accounts.
